However, this class is made up of folks from K-12, business and industry, the military, those who actually work in museum\/science centers, as well as masters and doctoral students from different disciplines. In order to level the playing field we need to come up with an artifact\u00a0that:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>demonstrates a holistic understanding of informal\/museum learning, and<\/li>\n<li>takes into consideration your vision of STEM as appropriate in your line of work, and<\/li>\n<li>takes into consideration your level of expertise with media.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><\/div><\/div>\n<h3>This is an interesting challenge. So, we have come up with the following concept:<\/h3>\n<div class=\"su-box su-box-style-default\" id=\"\" style=\"border-color:#0033cc;border-radius:3px;max-width:none\"><div class=\"su-box-title\" style=\"background-color:#3366ff;color:#FFFFFF;border-top-left-radius:1px;border-top-right-radius:1px\">Project Deliverables<\/div><div class=\"su-box-content su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\" style=\"border-bottom-left-radius:1px;border-bottom-right-radius:1px\"><\/p>\n<h3>Project Case<\/h3>\n<p>You are an instructional designer who has just been hired (either as an employee or\u00a0 consultant) to create an informal workspace to teach a STEM related topic or topics. Your employer MAY be a textbook company that needs to create supplementary materials for a STEM-related book. Your job is to create an <strong>instructional design document<\/strong> that is appropriate for an informal\/experiential  learning experience.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note that an instructional design document is different than a lesson plan.<\/strong> We did cover these differences in EDF 6284 but I realize that some of you may not have taken that course yet. To help remind you i have posted the notes form the final projects for that course below. Click on the plus sign to reveal.<\/p>\n<p><div class=\"su-spoiler su-spoiler-style-fancy su-spoiler-icon-caret-square su-spoiler-closed\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\" data-anchor-in-url=\"no\"><div class=\"su-spoiler-title\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\"><span class=\"su-spoiler-icon\"><\/span>Instructional Design Document<\/div><div class=\"su-spoiler-content su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\"><br \/>\n<div class=\"wp-block-pdfemb-pdf-embedder-viewer\"><a href=\"https:\/\/emeclasses.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Task-Description.pdf\" class=\"pdfemb-viewer\" style=\"\" data-width=\"max\" data-height=\"max\" data-toolbar=\"bottom\" data-toolbar-fixed=\"on\">Task Description<\/a><\/div><\/div><\/div><br \/>\n<br \/>\nThe artifact(s) you create MAY include some direct teaching but in general  the learning needs to be self-directed, constructivist based. If you decide to use a textbook, you need to name it and use it as the basis for your content. It is assumed that the book already includes direct instruction and your job is to &#8216;flip the classroom&#8217; where the book is used outside of class to provide detail content and background information and the learning space\/digital sandbox you create is to help the student &#8216;lock in&#8217; the content through interactive, contextualized activities.<\/p>\n<p>You  need to call upon your understanding of the <a href=\"\/?p=40756\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>ADDIE and ASSURE design principles<\/strong><\/a>. In case you have not taken the Instructional Design course (EDF 6284) you will need to dig in a little on your own into what the ADDIE and ASSURE models do to help you plan the experience.<br \/>\n<div class=\"su-divider su-divider-style-default\" style=\"margin:15px 0;border-width:3px;border-color:#999999\"><\/div><\/p>\n<h3>Notes\/Hints:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The experience you create needs to target STEM content\/context (as described in the first module)<\/li>\n<li>The project has three parts.\n<ol>\n<li>Create a <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>design document<\/strong><\/span> that outlines your thinking process and rationale behind your selection of topic(s)<\/li>\n<li>Using ADDIE and ASSURE models, <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>answer the questions as noted by each letter in both acronyms<\/strong> <\/span>(i.e, analyze your learners, design the experience, answer questions about its development, implementation, and evaluation, then with regards to ASSURE how you would go about selecting media, etc..)<\/li>\n<li>Create an <strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">activities outline<\/span><\/strong> based on your selecting the appropriate instructional delivery method, as described in that  lesson module from Cycle 2.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><div class=\"su-divider su-divider-style-default\" style=\"margin:15px 0;border-width:3px;border-color:#999999\"><\/div><\/p>\n<h3>Evaluation<\/h3>\n<p>All final submissions will be reviewed in the contexts derived from the answers to the questions posed in each of the learning cycles found on the Calendar page:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Your personal definition of the term &#8220;STEM\/STEAM&#8217; <\/li>\n<li>A definition of museum\/free choice learning<\/li>\n<li>It is based on one or two exemplar programs we reviewed this term that have been shown to be  successful  <\/li>\n<li>An  review of your final product in terms of the RETAIN\/gamification principles<\/li>\n<li>An assessment\/evaluation plan based on sound educational theory<\/li>\n<li>It has sustaining power based on what we currently know about the future<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Grading<\/h3>\n<p>Overall, there are three possible grades you can receive for this project as contextualized by the evaluation criteria noted above:<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">\u201cA\u201d Project Grade (assuming all interim due dates are met)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The product\/artifact includes all six parts as noted above, justifies the chosen instructional delivery methods, and follows the ASSURE and\/or ADDIE format<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">\u201cB\u201d Project Grade (assuming appropriate due dates are met)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The artifacts are submitted but  with one or two of the required elements missing <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">\u201cC\u201d Project Grade (assuming appropriate due date is met)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Both artifacts are submitted but with more than two required elements missing<br \/>\nThe rationale is missing<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Note that late projects automatically qualify for a &#8220;C&#8221; Project Grade<br \/>\n<span class=\"su-highlight\" style=\"background:#ddff99;color:#000000\">&nbsp; UPLOAD THE PROJECT ARTIFACTS TO CANVAS AND UPLOAD THE PROJECT TO LIVETEXT &nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>The project posting\/uploading and naming instructions will be posted at a later date on final assignment checklist<\/h2>\n<p><\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is an interesting challenge.
