EME 6207 – Final Project & Rubric

Final Project Specs

This project is a site you will produce using a content management system. While we are focusing in Worpdress and Drupal, you MAY wish to use another, such as Joomla!

I could spell out exactly what I want –line by line page by page– but I want you to get creative. I do want you to select a theme and to install a few (min three) plug-ins. The Rubric below should give you some guidance. I do not want you to simply build to the rubric… you are Masters’ degree students who should take sufficient interest in this project to stretch yourself.

Once you are done, you will be asked to confirm that the site was completed and post the url to the site in the drop box set up in Canvas.

Finally, you will be asked to post a reflection in another drop box that details your decision process as to the plug ins you selected, the theme, why you picked the CMS that you did, and the thinking behind the design and how you followed good design principles.

Note the due dates in the Calendar page. and on Canvas. In summary, there are three deliverables…

    1. Phase 1- your storyboard/site plan (Due September 14)
Here are some Links to describe what a site plan is/should contain:

Yes, it is early and you MAY not know what you are going to do.. The site plan is a working document (kind of,like a storyboard for a video). Just make some early decisions about the content and how the user should access it. The in Phase 2 (below) you may submit an addendum/change document.

    2. Phase 2- the URL of the site (Due October 12)

What we are trying to ensure is that you have gotten your web host set up and are working on it. You must use a host that allows ftp uploads so that you can install your site yourself.  You may not use wordpress.com or joomla.com for a web host.

    3. Phase 3- your final submission (Due November 28)
Rubric

Here is a rubric for you to use to use to guide your work:

        • choose a skin (“look and feel”) with a theme
        • build a story page that uses your content in a new, unique way (in other words show the content being re-purposed from another medium).
        • install a forum/blog.
        • create a user menu navigation to access the features you install into the system.
