Background – what are Digital Book Trailer?

This activity requires that you read a book and then produce a 2-3 minute trailer for it. You may use still images but you need to figure out a way to reenact at least a portion of the story. You may use what ever on screen talent you can find… make it a family affair would be fun perhaps?

Book trailers are short, two to three minute videos that introduce the basic story line and in which the story is re-enacted with similar artistic and creative decisions made by a movie director as to what parts of the story are presented in a film he or she is creating.

In order to get a full idea as to what we are attempting to accomplish with this project, I would like for you to read a couple publications on the research we have done with K-12 students to introduce and validate our assumptions:

Now that you have an idea about things, watching the video will make that much more sense. Here is Part 1 in which I introduce the whys and wherefores:

The next part of the video introduces the lesson activities we use in K-12 classrooms to get kids to produce book trailers of their own:

The last part of the video provides a little input as to how we introduce the videos into the classroom and the lesson sequence. Also a few pointer are provided for you to get an idea as to what you need to bring to the party when you produce your trailers.
